Popular, oddly-dressed swing bandleader who's been dubbed "the swing king" from the "Music Hath Charms" story of comic book The Spirit (1945).
He's been blackmailed by mysterious criminal The Maestro (The Spirit) to cough up $50,000 or be killed. He desperately begs for help from the cops, and they and hero The Spirit go to the meeting point. The Spirit gets beaten near to death, and The Maestro gets away. But The Spirit recovers and tracks The Maestro down again and this time, beats him up before The Maestro can make good on his threat.
