The Femme Brigade
All-female band from the 1996 romance novel The Boys in the Band by Todd Strasser (New York, N.Y. : HarperPaperbacks). Protagonist musician pals Frank and Eddie can't get a gig, except by dressing as women to get into an all-girl band.
Brian was the preppy-looking guy with the short brown hair and the wire-rim glasses. He'd just graduated from the Yale School of Management and had gotten a job with Sam Zuckert's organization in the city. Managing the Femme Brigade was his first job. The Femme Brigade was the name of the band.
It was ten o'clock in the morning and they were sitting in one of those long vans bands often travel in. They were parked on Main Street, Clotsburg, outside Sal's Pizza. Besides Frank, who'd been hired to play lead guitar, and Eddie, there was Chrissy, the waif-like lead singer with the surprisingly big voice; Ann, the tall, dark-haired bass player, Rachel, the redhead who played keyboards; and Toni, a shapely black girl who wore low-cut dresses and shared the backup singing with Sabrina.
Seems similar to the classic 1959 film Some Like It Hot.
