The name of both father and son musicians from the 1904 play The Music Master by Charles Klein. The father was a Dutch horn soloist for the Leipzig Orchestra. He was a friend of the conductor, Anton von Barwig, who helped him get his start. Poons Senior died some time ago before the play opens. Protagonist Barwig is now in New York in a failed search for his wife who ran off with their daughter, and running out of money. Poons Junior has come over to seek his fortune as a cello player, with Barwig's help.
Leon Kohlmar played Poons in the play. The play was adapted into a 1927 silent film. Howard Cull played Poons in the film. Unfortunately, it is believed no copies of the film still exist.
A novelization of the play by the author was published in 1909.
