Young amateur organist in rural West Virginia in the short story "Dula's Organ" from The Golden Argosy magazine vol. 1, no. 23 (May 12, 1883).

Back from boarding school in Baltimore, she misses music. So her father "Trapper Dick" arranges to have a "cabinet-organ" delivered to their very very rural home near the Cheat River in Randolph County. This arouses the attention of local moonshiner and gang leader Big Hamish, who thinks it must be a strongbox being delivered. He and his gang sneak up on the house in the night, but are so deeply moved when they hear Dula play, they cancel the raid, and request politely to be allowed to listen.
