Cinyras in Greek mythology was a famous hero, king of Cyprus, pal of Agamemnon, and father of Adonis. He even supposedly invented the flute.

He was also a singer and played the lyre. He and the god of music Apollo had a lyre-playing contest (pro tip: never compete with gods). After Apollo won, he killed Cinyras, because hubris.
