Reclusive Brian Wilson-esque former rock star who is the protagonist of Canadian author Paul Quarrington's 1989 comic novel Whale Music. Following the death of his brother, Desmond has retired to a seaside home where he composes symphonies for pods of whales that gather nearby.

The novel was adapted for the screen in 1994, with Maury Chaykin playing Desmond.
