"Mechanical Jazz" band playing the Monterey Mechanical Jazz Festival in the 1970 sci-fi novel After Things Fell Apart. by Ron Goulart.

Really the band is a cover act for anti-man terrorist group Mankill, Inc., aka Lady Day. They plan to murder some politicians they took hostage on stage at the festival.
