Vitaly Chernobyl and the Meltdowns are a fictional Ukrainian nuclear fuzz-grunge collective band from the 1992 novel Snow Crash by Neal Stephenson.

Vitaly is a broke Ukrainian singer/electric guitarist who is the novel's protagonist (named Hiro Protagonist in a hit-me-over-the-head case of nominative determinism...) roommate.

With song titles like My Heart Is a Smoking Hole in the Ground, their music describes the current dystopian urban condition. That's why they're popular with skaters.
