Unnamed narrator of James Weldon Johnson's Harlem Renaissance classic The Autobiography of an Ex-Colored Man (first published anonymously in 1912). A talented composer, he abandons his dream of elevating the public perception of Black music and composers after witnessing a lynching and choosing to pass as white.
