One of the many fictional jazz outfits created by DJ/producer Madlib in the 2000s. The releases by these 'bands' on Stones Throw Records often looked and sounded as if they were vintage and discovered in a second-hand record store. Drummer in Sound Directions is Otis Jackson Jr., the most obvious alias for Madlib, since that's his birth name. Some of the Sound Directions recordings credit actual musicians such as trumpeter Hoagie Haven, saxophonist Tracy Wannomae and guitarist Dan Ubick.
