One of the many jazz personalities created by DJ/producer Madlib. Since 2000, Madlib has brought forth an ecosystem of imaginary bands and musicians by releasing material on the Stones Throw Records label. The first act in this context was Yesterdays New Quintet. Malik Flavors first appeared on albums by Yesterdays New Quintet as one of the members of that group. On their 2001 EP "Uno Esta" he plays guitar. On their subsequent releases, he plays percussion. On the Malik Flavors solo album "Ugly Beauty" (2004) he is credited for playing percussion, organ and synthesizer.
