Successful violinist and orchestra conductor murdered by The Phantom Troubadour in the "Troubadour of Terror" story in The Human Torch comic book, Vol. 1, #31 (July, 1948). The Sub-Mariner is too late to prevent him from being murdered at Briggs' concert at a waterfront amphitheater.

He was the co-composer of the popular song "Death in Venice," along with Vladimir Borsch and Jim and Luella Clegget.

The song's title, "Death in Venice," is taken from the 1912 novella of the same name by Thomas Mann.
