Irish musician from the 1860 poem "The Music-Master: A Love Story" by William Allingham (1824–1889), an Irish poet, diarist, and editor.

His father was the church organist, and his son an apt and eager pupil. Eventually, Gerald takes his place. Then Gerald falls for young Milly of Cloonamore, but decides to go to America. When he comes back five years later, Milly's dead. Gerald falls into depression, and goes back to America to live like a hermit.
