(Also spelled Allen a Dale, Allen-a-Dale, Allan-a-Dale, Allin-a-Dale, Allan A'Dayle, Allin of Dale, and many other ways.) Wandering minstrel who joins the Merry Men in the Robin Hood tales. A late addition to the Robin Hood story, he was introduced in the 17th century and first appeared in print in Child Ballad 138. He's been portrayed many times in movies, TV, radio, and comic adaptations.
