Singer from the "Variation Two: Old Friend" section of the 1965 novel I Love You, I Hate You, Drop Dead! Variations on a Theme by real musician and bandleader Artie Shaw.

He recorded vocals with The Natchez Hot Five and The New Orleans Washboard Blues Blowers back in the early 1930s or late 1920s.

He flips for 17-year-old debutante Betsy Huntington, but she ends up with his pal, the writer Stephen A. Larsen, who's a closet anti-semite.

Miles' real name is Joseph Malovitz.
