The title instrument from Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's opera, The Magic Flute (German: Die Zauberflöte), which premiered in Vienna on 30 September 1791. The libretto was written by Emanuel Schikaneder.
The flute, given to Prince Tamino by three ladies of the Queen of the Night, has the power to change sorrow into joy. Tamino's comic relief sidekick, Papageno has some magic bells, but it's not called The Magic Bells, now is it?
Later, toward the end of the opera, Tamino and his love interest Princess Pamina survive magical trials by using the the music of the magic flute to pass unscathed through chambers of fire and water.
