Reinhart "Renne" Sundheimer is child prodigy on the cello from The Soloist (novel by Mark Salzman), 1994. Despite training with world famous cellist Johannes von Kempen, hearing issues and encroaching mediocrity derail his success and he becomes a UCLA cello teacher. Sundheimer helps his own prodigy protege, nine-year-old Korean-American, Kyung-hee, to success.
