Robert Spinrobin
Protagonist and tenor singer in the 1910 novel The Human Chord by Algernon Blackwood. He runs afoul of ex-clergyman Philip Skale, who believes that everyone has an unknown "true" name, and by intoning it properly, it can transform them materially. Chanting their "true" name will allow the chanter to meld become as one with the chantee. Skale hires Spinrobin as his assistant, because proper intoning requires a vocal quartet.
Skale has planned that he will sing bass, Spinrobin tenor, Skale's housekeeper Mrs. Mawle alto, and her pretty daughter Miriam Mawle soprano. Unfortunately for Spinrobin, Skale isn't planning on chanting any ole person's true name, but the that of a higher power.
