Battle of the bands on 'Desperate Housewives'

Tokyo Police Club, a Canadian indie band, are accustomed to playing festivals like Lollapallooza and Edgefest. But now they're taking a trip to Wisteria Lane.

The Newmarket, Ont. quartet will be making their national primetime debut on "Desperate Housewives," this Sunday, Nov. 16 on CTV, appearing as the fictional rock band Cold Splash.

"Why be in a rock band if you're not going to do all the weird stuff that comes with it?" says Graham Wright, the band's resident keyboard player.

"It sounded like being on the show would be fun and it absolutely was. I'm going to watch myself pretend to play the keyboard on national television -- that's pretty cool."

In addition to swapping some line with the stars of "Desperate Housewives," the band perform their song "In a Cave," from their latest album, "Elephant Shell."

This season on "Housewives," Edie's mysterious husband Dave has made it his mission to get all the middle-aged men playing in a garage band.

In the upcoming episode, "City on Fire," the so-called Wisteria Lane group enters a "battle of the bands" competition. Tokyo Police Club will step in to fill the role of their youthful opponents.

This isn't the band's first brush with "Housewives" -- Tokyo Police Club was named-dropped on the show earlier this season, when Lynette Scavo (Felicity Huffman) set up a fake online profile in order to spy on her son.

Wright says the connection between his band and "Desperate Housewives" isn't so strange, and says that a friend of theirs works behind the scenes on the series.

"It was one of those things where we kind of knew about it beforehand. During rewrites, the whole storyline was in limbo and we didn't know if it would work with our touring schedule -- but it finally did," says Wright.

Despite never having watched the show before, the musician confessed that he ended up watching an episode while on set and like it. Wright even suggests that the band might crack open a DVD set of the show while on tour.

"I just may become a convert yet" says Wright.

"Desperate Housewives" airs Sunday nights on CTV. Tokyo Police Club hits the road this winter on a short cross-country tour with Metric.
