Nigel Planer's often-abused token hippie character from anarchic UK comedy The Young Ones (1982-1984) became a progressive rock musician on Neil's Heavy Concept Album (1984). The album was a mix of original tunes, comedy bits, and covers of songs by Donovan, Traffic, Tomorrow, the Incredible String Band, Caravan, Pink Floyd, and the Sex Pistols sung by Planer in character and backed by a bunch of Cambridge sound vets. In the UK, it was actually surprisingly successful—the cover of Traffic's "Hole in My Shoe" hit number 2 on the pop charts. Cherry Red Records reissued it in 2014 with a few bonus tracks, including a cover of "Brown Sugar."
