Rome John Popular Teen-Agers.png

Poor, blind, elderly street fiddler from the Toni Gay story "The Case of the 'Fortunate Fiddle'" in Star Publications comic book Popular Teen-Agers #8 (July 1951).

When some goon steals his violin, model Gay tracks the thief to Nero's Music Shop. Turns out the fiddle Rome bought secondhand 40 years ago is really a Stradavarius, and Nero recognized it and stole it. After he's beaten up and turned over to the police, Rome lives comfortably ever after. The whole thing is a shaggy-dog story to get to the groaner: Rome fiddles while Nero burns."
