From the 1983 novel The Life of Byron Jaynes by James Howard Kunstler.

A Jim Morrison-like figure, he was supposed to have O.D.'d in a London hotel back in 1971, but rumors that he's really alive turn out to be true when rock journalist Rick Sears finds him in rural New Hampshire.
