Celebrated opera soprano in Victorien Sardou‘s 1887 play La Tosca. The play was a sensation that sparked a number of adaptations. The most famous is Giacomo Puccini‘s famed 1900 opera Tosca, but our fave is Francis Burnand and Florian Pascal’s Tra-la-la Tosca or The High-Toned Soprano and the Villain Bass, an English burlesque parody (1890).
