A human transported to a world of anthropomorphic animals by the turtle wizard Clothahump, Jon-Tom finds he can wield the power of a spellsinger, a mage who can use songs to cast spells.
His son, Buncan, wants to be a spellsinger, but his singing is so bad it summons evil spirits.
