Young, promising African-American pianist from a 1951 plotline of the comic strip 'Torchy in Heartbeats (1950-1954), by the first female African American cartoonist, Jackie Ormes.
Despondent after both his hands are crushed in an accident, protagonist Torchy tries to help him overcome his depression, and falls for him. Torchy also enlists the help of King Ivory, Lester's teacher and mentor.
