Opera singer and later composer in the novel Consuelo and it's sequel The Countess of Rudolstadt by George Sand (the male pseudonym of the female Amantine Lucile Aurore Dupin). It was first published serially in 1842-1843 in the periodical La Revue indépendante (founded by Sand).
She is based on Sand's friend and real soprano, Pauline Viardot.
The novel was turned into an opera twice: Consuelo by Alfonso Rendano (1888), and Consuelo by Giacomo Orefice (1895).
