Old Time country music group from the 1920s and 1930s from the 1992 novel The Devil's Dream by Lee Smith. Virgie, Tampa, and Lucie are from the Grassy Branch creek area in Tennessee.
They had the hits "Livin' on Love" and "Melungeon Man," both written by R.C. Bailey, their manager, who also wrote "Down by Grassy Branch."
The Grassy Branch Girls made nineteen recordings before the Depression brought it all to a halt, and they could've kept on if they'd been willing to pick up and move someplace else to be on the radio...
