Streetwise, famous African American jazz singer from the 1965 novel, An American Dream by Norman Mailer, originally serialized in Esquire magazine. He's loosely based on Miles Davis.
He dated Cherry McMahan's sister, but she committed suicide. He then dates Cherry herself.
The novel was adapted into a 1966 film of the same name, with Paul Mantee playing Shago Martin.
