Violinist John Wallace gets stabbed with a violin bow wile protecting the mysterious old violin maker "Papa" Antonini, who saves him from death with the magical Pipes of Life/Pipes of Death. The guy later gets killed, inspiring Wallace to become this superhero.
He also got a sidekick, Penrod "Downbeat" Hunter. His nemesis was The Mad Fiddler
