Archie Andrews' plan to hire Benny King and his band to play the Senior Class dance explodes in his face in the "Band of the Bland" story of comic book Pep Comics #28 (June 1942). So Andrews is forced to throw together this band out of random amateurs at the last minute.

The band slowly disintegrates over the night as the banjo player has to respond to a fire, the blind accordion player has sold all his pencils, and the drummer has to meet his curfew.
