A compilation of cartoons from 2007, featuring the band was released as the book Big Nate Out Loud in 2011 (Andrews McMeel Publishing).
The band plays a big role in a stage musical version of the comic strip, also called Big Nate, performed by the Adventure Theater Musical Theater Center May 3 through June 2, 2013 (book by Jason Loewith, lyrics by Chris Youstra & Jason Loewith, music by Chris Youstra). Nate competes in a Battle of the Bands at school against his arch-rival Gina's band, Rainbows and Ponies. There's also another band called Calvin and the Galvinators.
The name is a parody of real band Cage the Elephant.
