His mother, Lotte Schmitt was a cabaret performer.
In 1959, Klaus moved to the Soho district of London, and formed two accordion-led pop music bands, Accordion Pete & the Accordion Boys, which failed, and then The Accordion Boy & His Pop Beat Combo Chums, which had some success.
In 1967, the band is renamed Kinky Roosevelt and plays progressive, heavy rock.
Klaus was presumed dead after a unexplained explosion at a used record store in London in 1984.
