Musical instrument popular in the year 3000 from the animated television series Futurama. A wind instrument, it also encompasses high technology, as the user not only creates music, but also three dimensional holograms that reflect the music being played. Beautiful music produces beautiful imagery. Clumsy or poor playing produces ugly imagery.
It requires a lot of skill and technical prowess to play well.
The instrument is featured prominently in the "Parasites Lost" (21 Jan. 2001) and "The Devil's Hands Are Idle Playthings" (10 Aug. 2003) episodes.
The holophonor was inspired by Isaac Asimov's Visi-Sonor.
