Rock musician invented by writer Paul Ford in 2003. He started a series of columns written in character for "independent web ’zine" The Morning News. He then turned the columns into the 2005 novel Gary Benchley, Rock Star.
Benchley was a young, 22-year-old hipster and rocker wanna-be from Albany, trying to make it in the Big Apple. He forms the band Schizopolis.
