First appeared in the comic book Reg'lar Fellers Heroic Comics #12 (May 1942). Violinist John Wallace gets stabbed with a violin bow wile protecting a mysterious old violin maker who gives him the magical Pipes of Life/Pipes of Death. The guy later gets killed, inspiring Wallace to become this superhero.
He also got a sidekick, Penrod "Downbeat" Hunter.
He last appeared in the "The Room that Wasn't There" story in issue #31 of Heroic Comics #31 (July 1945).
