In the comic book The Wicked + The Divine, every 90 years twelve random human beings turn into reincarnated gods and goddesses. Despite being immortal and having other god-powers, they all end up dead in two years. The series is written by Kieron Gillen, illustrated by Jamie McKelvie, and published by Image Comics.
Their purpose each go-round is to inspire humanity and fight off the Great Darkness. In the 2010s "Recurrence" (the term for their appearance) they all become pop stars.
Urdr, one of the destiny-deciding Norns of Norse mythology, was born Cassandra Igarashi. Before incarnating, she was a trans woman with a Masters in Comparative Mythology, who had become an investigative journalist.
