An excellent violinist residing in the state of Georgia, the devil challenges him to a fiddle contest and loses. Johnny wins a gold fiddle. 

A sequel song, "The Devil Comes Back to Georgia" by Mark O'Connor and on his 1993 album ''[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heroes_(Mark_O%27Connor_album) Heroes]'', has the Devil challenge Johnny a second time. Johnny's out of practice because he has a new baby, but remains confident, over-cofident even, in his ability to best the Devil. The song featured Charlie Daniels,  Travis Tritt as the devil, Marty Stuart as Johnny, and Johnny Cash as the narrator.
